Ferrets are highly intelligent and exceptionally inquisitive small animals, and just like any other small animal, they are susceptible to fleas, mites and other parasites. These can be incredibly itchy for your ferret, and excessive scratching can cause their fur to fall out leaving bald patches. Fleas suck, and if left untreated this can lead to anaemia, fleas can have a very serious implication on the health of a small animal such as a ferret. As soon as you notice fleas on your pet ferret, you should begin treatment. If you have other animals in the house such as cats or dogs it is also possible that your ferret may get ticks from them, it is not common, but it is possible for them to transmit from one animal to another.
